I am considering having the lap band surgery. Does anyone know if the port is visible or causes problems when you bellyroll...I have this aweful picture in my head of it poking out or "popping" as I roll my stomach.

Re: Lap Band and Bellyrolls
Mon, October 20, 2008 - 12:46 PMI had the gastric bypass surgery followed by plastic surgery to remove the excess skin (went from 425 to 200 and now, sniff, back up to 260 thanks to family stress). Anyway, I can't bellyroll at all. No matter what I try, the muscles don't want to work in my stomach (and if I'm not careful, I get a charlie horse in my side, right above my hip). Now, bear in mind, I had the full gastric bypass and, because of my size at the time, they could not do the surgery laproscopically, so I have a 6-7 inch incision straight down the middle of my stomach.
But as far as it poking out or popping as you roll your stomach, I don't think it would do that. If you have a good doctor, I would ask. Don't let that be the only determining factor in whether or not you have surgery. There are a lot more important things to consider. But it can't hurt to ask.

Re: Lap Band and Bellyrolls
Mon, October 20, 2008 - 1:14 PMMy sister had lap band surgery....The port is under you skin far enough athat the way they find it to do the fills is via sonogram...You can' t see the port at all...I think as far as your belly rolls you may just have to relearn them afterwards because of where the port is located...Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Re: Lap Band and Bellyrolls
Mon, November 24, 2008 - 3:15 PMI've got a tribe for gastric bypass/ lap-band support already in place and welcome anyone else who wants to join! Several of us are bellydancers so the more the merrier. Its at tribes.tribe.net/bandsters
I'm pre-band myself, but since the band involves several small incisions I can't see it cutting major bands of muscle that would affect the ability to do bellyrolls. I know certain types of C-section can, but that involves large incisions rather than the small stab wounds from laparascopic surgery. -
