So I get to go to ShimmyFest (www.shimmyfest.com) Whooppee!!! It will be my first ever workshop, and I'm so excited. But then the question comes up---What to wear, what to wear? What is the norm for this type of workshop? Normal practice gear-hipscarf, tanktop, etc, or something special?
Thanks!
Whitney

Re: Workshop Wear
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 2:26 PMThat looks like a great festival! When I go to workshops, I usually wear normal practice gear, with something fringey or jingly. Have a great time!

Thu, July 10, 2008 - 3:46 PMWorkshops are when I wear my frankencholis! Other than that, normal practice gear -- whatever's comfortable, breathable & easy to move in. -

Re: Workshop Wear
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 11:56 AMIt's a great way to make use of t-shirts that are old, don't fit anymore, have holes, or otherwise you'd like to wear to workshops but without all that fabric: www.wearnoclothing.com/diy3.htm

Re: Workshop Wear
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 4:57 PMI wear my yoga or dance pants and a belly dance t shirt or pratice choli. Be prepared to SWEAT!!!
As for hip scarves, take one jingley and one non-jingley. Sometimes with every one jingling it gets too loud to hear what she/he has to say.
You can ask when you get there and wear whatever is in accordance with the instructors preference.
Don't forget your towel and WATER.
Hope you have a blast!

Re: Workshop Wear
Thu, July 10, 2008 - 5:00 PMThe one workshop I went to was a weekender with Suhaila Salimpour. And the towel and water bottle wasnt enough. We sweat so much, and got so stinky, that some of us changed into a second pair of workout clothes at lunch for the second half.

Re: Workshop Wear
Fri, July 11, 2008 - 5:37 PMI second what the others say about workout wear but, you might also take into consideration what kind of floor is in the workshop venue so, you might need shoes of some kind...And, I always use a non-noisy hipscarf so as not to disturb others and because I have heard a couple of teachers, I don't remember who, don't like you to wear noisy hipscarves at in their classes. -

Re: Workshop Wear
Sat, July 12, 2008 - 10:21 PMI just wear regular workout-practice wear and I don't always wear a hip scarf, but if I do I prefer non-jingly. There is nothing worse than 75 people all jingling when you are trying to hear someone on stage speaking.
BTW, I don't mean to sound like an info-mercial, but have you tried Magidah-wear. OMG, I love the stuff. The fabric is fantastic, the fit is great and the tops are genius. I got the short sleeve midriff top and the sleeves on it don't make me nuts about showing my arms. I also got the halter top and love it, the fabric is so great that it will even hold a bit of cleavage. It's good stuff in my opinion. I love mine!

I need to figure out a non-jingly fringey hip thing to wear... *breaks out the crochet hook*

Re: Workshop Wear
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 5:27 PMlol I ended up crocheted 4 tassel belts a couple of years ago(I get on these weird kicks) and that's what I tend to use now in class. It shows the movements of the hips and it's silent. Perfect combination :-)
