I want to link a video on my website and it would seem that youtube would be a quick way to do that, but I am a little worried about putting myself out there to "Joe Public".

If I want it to work through my website then I have to make it public right? I just don't want to sift through all the 'hating' that can come along with having a public video on youtube. Is that just the risk you take?

I know that I can turn off the comments which might be the best solution, but I really do want feedback from people in our community...I just want it to be based on the dance (good or bad).

What experience have you had and can you offer any advice?

Well, honestly, there's no way to filter bad comments out of any system you put up; that's part of the downside of being public, esp. on the 'Net.

The best thing to do might be to turn off YouTube comments, and send emails of the video to people you respect, asking them to look and email you back w/responses. This way, you help encourage them to give comments, and detailed ones at that; many people will just leave "yay! You rock!"

You can mark videos as private if you use googlevideos. And then you can still embed them on your website. My site is set up with a comments feature that allows me to approve or reject posts, so that way I can bypass the youtube mudslinging.

Ditto. Although, my video's not popular enough to attract the mudslingers. :-D
