Hi all, I'm headed to a Sharon Kihara/Amel Tafsout workshop this weekend. I was wondering if anyone here has done a workshop with the great Sharon and was willing to share how you felt about your experience there as a BBBD?

Disclaimer and maybe TMI--I'm not normally nervous about workshops/dancing in public. However, I've started a new medication in the past couple of months that really effected my endurance and energy level, and I'm just recently starting to feel 'like myself.' Guess I'm a little worried about being the only one needing to take breaks/sit out once in awhile!

Thanks in advance for any helpful feedback, 2 cents, etc.

  • I've never taken a workshop with Sharon but I did take one with Zoe. It would have been fine except that we did squat exercises for about an hour and a half. I really thought my legs might fall off. But since all the skinny-minnies were complaining too, I didn't feel too bad :-P

With that being said, there's really nothing wrong with sitting out once and a while. I had to sit out the last 45 minutes of the Sunday Workshop because my knee started acting up after working on quick turns. You gotta listen to your body. One thing I've learned though is that I'm a lot more fit that some of the thinner girls that I take classes with. I'll get out of breath and look around to find that half the girls are on the floor. lol
    • Rya, thanks for the input. You have a very good point about listening to your body--it's better to take a few minutes to watch and listen as needed, than to have to nurse an injury later!
      • Unsu...

You just might surprise yourself and out do all or least some of the skinnie minnies...I always laugh when they are sitting on the side lie "taking notes" and the fat girl (ME!) is still up dancing...HA HA HA!!!

        Have fun!!!!
        • I took a two workshops from her last year. It was amazing! She was very sensitive to anyone who had physical limitations of any sort and urged us to work hard but listen to our bodies. She is sweet and approachable. You will have a wonderful time, and come away tired but inspired.
          • I did have a great time, and was definitely tired and inspired! I've never taken tribal classes and have only done one tribal workshop before, so the arm stuff we were doing was a real eye-opener. Now to practice some of the things I learned so as not to forget anything :-)

Thanks to all for the input!
        • Renee!
One of my favorite dancers ran a "shimmy" workshop at a Pirate event we go to. She had PILES of itty bitty thin girls out there shimmying and going, and SWEATING and about to DIE... and she was calm and cool and collected. We still giggle about it. She's a BBBD and I LOVE HER!

So yah, just because we're a bit more plump, dosn't mean we are in bad shape, and just because someone is thin, also dosnt mean they are in great shape...

I wish I had oppertunity to do workshops with zoe!!!
